Riverworks Discovery at the New Orleans Aquarium

In October, Cooper/T. Smith Mooring and Crescent Towing participated in the annual River Works Discovery event at New Orleans’ Aquarium of the Americas. The purpose of the field trip is to teach elementary school students about different aspects of the Mississippi river. The students learn about wildlife, commerce, and the dangers of pollution. The highlight of the presentation was when Crescent Towing’s tug Mardi Grasarrived just outside the aquarium and sprayed a geyser of water into the river. Using Skype, a projector, and speakers, the students were actually able to see and speak to the tug’s captain, Roy Helmstetter, while he manned the wheelhouse.
